Benjamin Simon will be part of the NJSIAA's first ever Student Advisory Committee, representing Central Jersey for two years.

EAST WINDSOR, NJ — A Hightstown High School junior is making history. Benjamin Simon has been selected as a New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) Student Ambassador for the 2018-2019 school year, the school announced on Monday.

Simon, who plays baseball and basketball at the school, will be a part of the first ever Student Advisory Committee. He will represent Central Jersey for two years.

He was one of 31 students picked to represent New Jersey as a student ambassador in athletics. Simon will have a chance to help plan the future vision of athletics in New Jersey and look at current rules and policies that govern high school sports.

“I had the opportunity last year to participate in the NJSIAA Student Adviser Day, and that helped me learn what exactly we can do as student athletes in affecting the high school sports atmosphere,” Simon said. “When I heard the NJSIAA was seeking Student Ambassadors, I was excited to be able to do this again on a bigger scale where I can help student athletes all around the state have a more enjoyable and fair athletic experience. I am very eager to hear all the opinions of my fellow athletes and use those to improve high school sports, and make them something everyone can enjoy playing and watching.”

Student Ambassadors must meet all eligibility standards as outlined in the NJSIAA Handbook, possess leadership characteristics, maintain satisfactory academic standing, and be a positive role model within their school community.
