Mercer County Collects Over 1,000 Toys for the Needy

They were donated to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program on Dec. 16.

Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes presented more than 1,000 new, unwrapped toys to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program on Dec. 16.

The toys were collected from Mercer County employees, residents, businesses and civic groups during this year’s Holiday Toy Drive sponsored by the County Executive and the Mercer County Park Commission for donation to less fortunate local children.

Hughes presented the donations to Sgt. Darlene Gonzalez, the Marine Corps Reserve representative, at the Park Commission Headquarters at the Historic Hunt House in Hopewell Township. Mercer County Park Rangers then loaded the boxes of toys onto a truck for delivery to Toys for Tots.

“These gifts will go to children whose families might be struggling this holiday season,” Hughes said. “I am moved by the compassion of our employees and friends of Mercer County government whose generosity will bring smiles to many children’s faces.”
