Englewood high school students are gearing up to audition for the next Englewood Idol and Best Dance Crew audition.
Open auditions will be held Wednesday, Oct. 16 at Dwight Morrow High School from 4 to 7 p.m. in the South Building. Twelve performers will then be selected to grace the stage of bergenPAC on Friday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. to compete for the Englewood Idol title.
The show is organized by the Dr. John Grieco Scholarship Fund, with the support of bergenPAC. It serves as the largest annual fundraiser for the scholarship fund which is a 501(c)3 non-profit charity run by students at DMHS and A@E.
Auditions will also be held Oct. 16 for Englewood’s Best Dance Crew competition, which takes place during the Englewood Idol show.
Auditions for Englewood Idol and Englewood’s Best Dance Crew are open to any high school student who either lives in Englewood or goes to high school in Englewood.
For the singing competition, entrants can audition for up to 2 minutes, and must do so with no accompaniment. Dancers wishing to audition can dance for up to 2 minutes, and must provide their own accompaniment. All entrants are required to bring with them a parent/guardian-signed permission slip, which is available at www.englewoodidol.com or by emailing jaronson@epsd.org.
This is the 9th year that Englewood Idol is being presented, and the 75 students from Dwight Morrow High School and the Academies@Englewood who organize the show are more excited than ever.
Soindos Abdah, President of the Dr. John Grieco Scholarship Fund and a senior at the Academies@ Englewood, says this year’s show promises to be their best yet.
“Many of the students who organize and run the show have been doing it since our freshman year, so we feel like professionals.” Grieco Scholarship advisor Judy Aronson said, “Our students have taken on this show and turned it into an amazing experience for the audience and the performers. And even though there is a lot of behind-the-scenes stress, they are always joking and having a good time; they know how to keep it light.
