Cardiopulmonary Unit At Englewood Hospital Gets Upgraded
New single rooms have replaced double rooms and improvements have been made to reduce the spread of infections.
ENGLEWOOD, NJ — A surgical unit servicing cardiopulmonary patients at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center has been renovated and upgraded.
The renovation is the latest in a series on the hospital's third-floor designed to prevent infections from spreading and improve patients' experience. Phase one was recently completed.
The renovations have allowed for single-bed patient rooms, family and patient lounges and new Care Team stations.

Twenty-two double- and single-occupant rooms were converted to 20 single-occupant rooms. Nursing supplies are located just outside each room, cutting down on noise and interruptions. Glass now covers each room's 40-inch television, clocks and other wall accents to help reduce the spread of infections. Patients can control the level of LED lights in their rooms. Couches convert to beds so family members can more easily stay with patients.
RSC also designed a waiting area leading into the third-floor patient care unit, three decentralized care team stations that allow for supervision throughout the unit, a patient lounge and staff and patient support spaces.

RSC Architects of Hackensack designed the multi-phase renovations.
“The mission of this multi-phase modernization project is to reduce the stark clinical feel of older patient rooms into a warm, hospitable environment,” says Pasquale Avallone, healthcare manager of RSC Architects. “We used a modular manufactured construction method on the headwalls and footwalls of the rooms so we could embed the necessary technology, like medical gas outlets. We made sure our design allows for flexibility to update systems with new innovations in the field.”
