Giving back to those in need is ingrained in CareOne’s more than 20-year culture. And this culture is exemplified in the leadership of CEO Daniel E. Straus (second from left above) and Executive Vice President Elizabeth Straus (center). Under the direction of the father-daughter team, CareOne is not only one of the premier family-owned health care companies in New Jersey, with more than 29 facilities throughout the state, but it is also a leader in philanthropy and corporate giving.
The Strauses are passionate about charitable outreach and work tirelessly to support various groups and organizations throughout New Jersey. Further, CareOne selects a charitable organization to support each year. The company’s recent initiatives have raised more than $5 million in funds for organizations including Superstorm Sandy relief efforts, Boston's One Fund, The Valerie Fund Children's Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Most recently, the Strauses put their energy and good will behind CareOne’s 200 Wishes Fundraiser in support of Make-A-Wish New Jersey. The one-of-a-kind event, which was held at the Prudential Center in February, exemplified CareOne’s long-standing and ongoing commitment to philanthropy. It included ice skating on the New Jersey Devils’ ice rink, carnival games and prizes, a Build-A-Bear Workshop experience and special guest appearances by Olympic medalist Nancy Kerrigan and other world-champion skaters, among many other special experiences and all-star guests for its attendees.

Through their hard work, diligence and commitment to Make-A-Wish New Jersey, the Strauses and CareOne raised $1.3 million in support of the children’s charity at the 200 Wishes event and helped grant a significant number of wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions throughout New Jersey. Further, the event and the resulting commitment from CareOne represents the single largest corporate gift in the New Jersey chapter’s 34-year history.
In recognition of the 200 Wishes event, Daniel and Elizabeth Straus, along with the entire CareOne team, was celebrated at the Make-A-Wish New Jersey Annual Gala on June 8. The Strauses were the recipients of the charity’s 2017 Humanitarian of the Year award, and CareOne was recognized with the Corporation of the Year award.

Tom Weatherall, President & Chief Executive Officer for Make-A-Wish New Jersey, commented, "The Straus family and CareOne have distinguished themselves as leaders in the community, contributing to the quality of life in their patients and families. They have extended that commitment, through their charitable support, to the children and families who are served by Make-A-Wish New Jersey, and we are proud to be a part of this very special friendship."
Make-A-Wish New Jersey’s Annual Gala took place at the Samuel & Josephine Plumeri Wishing Place in Monroe Township, New Jersey. The fun-filled evening, which recognized two of New Jersey’s philanthropic leaders, included a cocktail reception and silent auction, followed by a dinner and a live auction, as well as a special performance from Max Weinberg of the E Street Band and Special Friends. CareOne's total fundraising efforts after this month's gala, combined with their event at the Prudential Center, is a whopping $2.4 million.
