The Chest's Campaign to Benefit Those Struggling During Pandemic
The Community Chest's Campaign seeks public's support to help people facing hardships from COVID-19 pandemic. in Eastern Bergen County
With the COVID-19 pandemic spreading in a second wave, the needs in eastern Bergen County are escalating. The Community Chest's 2020-2021 Annual Campaign is underway raising funds for grants to award to nonprofit agencies serving people experiencing the greatest need in our community. As the holiday giving season opens, The Chest asks its neighbors to give locally. For 87 years, the organization has led initiatives and supported nonprofits to make local communities stronger and benefit people in the area.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, The Chest's critical funding supports operations or direct services for agencies' clients for health care, personal protective equipment, meals and supplies for people in need in 15 municipalities. "We encourage the public to give locally and support their neighbors in need experiencing hardships resulting from COVID-19. The public's support is vital, as the pandemic continues to create financial burdens for our neighbors, while expenses rise steeply for our grantees," said Dr. Shelly Wimpfheimer, Executive Director, The Community Chest.

Each year, The Chest raises funds and allocates them in competitive grants to nonprofit agencies demonstrating the capacity to provide services to local citizens. Coordinating and planning services are also provided in its communities, serving as a bridge between agencies and organizations and investing in the stability and quality of the service network. The organization's Board of Managers implements a thorough process of screening, research, and monitoring to assure the funds raised are directed to the most worthy programs and the areas of greatest need.
