Cops: Armed Robber Steals $66K From Valley National Bank

Police have distributed a photo of the bandit who robbed the bank Monday morning.

A man with a gun pushed his way into the Valley National Bank on South Dean Street in Englewood just as it was opening Monday and made out with approximately $66,000, according to a statement of the Englewood Police Department.

Just before 8 a.m. Monday, a bank staffer was opening a secured door when the man appeared, said Police Chief Lawrence Suffern. The employee tried and struggled to close and lock the door, but the man displayed a handgun.

"The employee released her hold on the door for fear of being shot," the chief said in the statement.

The man then forced tellers to open the bank vault and give him cash. After restraining the workers, he left the building. Suffern said Englewood Police worked with the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit to conduct an intensive search of the area, however, the man was not found.

Suffern said the man has brown skin and a thin build, stands 5-foot-9 to 6 feet tall, and was wearing a black waist-length leather-like jacket, black pants, black puffy scarf, black wool cap, black gloves and black suede boots.
