Englewood 7-Eleven Armed Robbery Lands Couple in Bergen County Jail, Cops Say

Dawid Debowski and Marjorie Alva are charged in the Wednesday armed robbery of $780 from the Grand Avenue convenience store.

Englewood City Police report that a man and a woman were arrested Wednesday for the armed robbery of the 7-Eleven on Grand Avenue.

Detective Capt. Thomas Torell said that at about 2 p.m. Wednesday, Officer Frank Rocco drove up to the convenience store and saw 23-year-old Dawid Debowski, from Staten Island, N.Y., walking away from the night clerk with “literally two fists full of cash.”

At the same time, Officer Rocco could clearly see the clerk was frightened and pointing toward Debowski, Torell said.

The officer reportedly called for backup and police arriving at the scene from Englewood and Leonia arrested Debowski.

Torell allege Debowski demanded money from the store clerk while holding one of his hands under his sweatshirt to make himself appear to have a gun, which cops say he did not have. The man was able to convince the clerk to turn over $780 in cash, which was returned to the store, police said.

Cops also arrested Debowski’s 22-year-old girlfriend Marjorie Alva, of Elmwood Park, who was seated in a vehicle just outside the store.

Debowski was charged with one count of first degree armed robbery and Alva was charged with first degree conspiracy to commit armed robbery, as well as third degree possession of a Xanax without a prescription and fourth degree weapons possession for a knife she allegedly had in a bag.

Both were sent to Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.
