Englewood Cliffs Police Chief Placed On Administrative Leave, Report Says

Borough attorney recommended a prosecutor investigate Chief Michael Cioffi due to an alleged ticket-fixing scheme, the report said.

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. – Police Chief Michael Cioffi was placed on administrative leave for 30 days Wednesday after borough attorney Brent Pohlman, recommended Cioffi be investigated by a prosecutor, The Record reported.

The Borough Council suspended Cioffi with a 3-2 vote, the report said.

Pohlman reported that there have been complaints from police officers, an investigation into overtime pay to the department, and an alleged ticket-fixing scheme, the report said.

The chief allegedly suspended Deputy Chief Michael McMorrow, who has a lawsuit pending against Cioffi where he claims the suspension was political retaliation, according to the report.

Cioffi accused Pohlman of running a witch-hunt, the report said.
