Englewood, Cliffs Student Artists To Be Featured in Gallery Exhibit

One River School of Art & Design, an art education facility in Englewood, is presenting a new exhibit showcasing the work of students from Englewood, Englewood Cliffs and other Bergen County towns, as well as faculty from the school.

 “Art Effect,” which opens Dec. 28, also features a silent auction of selected works to raise money for Englewood Hospital and Medical Center.

Included in the exhibit are works by seven-year-old Englewood Cliffs twins, Sydney and Anabella Siew; Nikki Theodorakos, 7, also of Englewood Cliffs; four-year old Adam Bendaoud of Englewood; and Inaya Wilson, 12, also of Englewood. All of the kids are taking classes at the school, according to organizers.

“We’re thrilled to present our first student show, which is a culmination of our first season of teaching at One River School,” said One River School of Art & Design founder Matt Ross.  “Families, friends, and members of [both communities] will be quite impressed with the level of talent on display, especially the creations of Sophia and Hannah. Building the One River Gallery space has been a labor of love, and having the privilege of giving our students a chance to publically exhibit their work is an honor.”

Ross is donating 100 percent of the proceeds from the silent auction to Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. In addition to the selected student and school faculty work from “Art Effect,” the silent auction will feature artwork by Brooklyn-based professional artists Jim Torok and Erik den Breejen, whose work will also be on display in a two-person show at the gallery opening Jan. 10, 2013.

“We believe that using art to help the community is central to our purpose, and that’s why we picked the name ‘Art Effect’ for our community shows,” Ross said. “It’s through this kind of collaboration that art’s effect goes above and beyond its beauty, and we hope that our student exhibitions become a meaningful way to connect our work to Englewood Hospital Medical Center for years to come.”

“Art Effect” also showcases the artwork of students from Cresskill, Tenafly, Demarest, Bergenfield, Fort Lee, Closter, Harrington Park, Cliffside Park, Edgewater and Hackensack, according to organizers.

The show runs from Dec. 28 through Jan. 5.
