Englewood Jr. Track And Field Team Raising Money To Go To Nationals

Nearly 60 athletes advanced to the National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships in Kansas.

ENGLEWOOD, NJ — Nearly 60 athletes on the city's Junior Track and Field team need help if they want to go to the national championships.

Fifty-seven athletes qualified for the 51st USATF Hershey National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships from July 23 to 30 in Lawrence, Kansas.

The team is looking to raise $30,000 to fund the trip. More than $2,000 has been donated online.

"We need the support of our community to help make this trip affordable for the entire team to attend," said Cherie Ware-Powell, who is organizing the fundraising effort.

The team's founder, Harold Ware, Ware-Powell's father, died in March.

"We would love to honor his legacy of the track team at nationals," Ware-Powell said.
