Englewood Police Seek Woman Wanted for Alleged Elderly Abuse

Cops believe Mary Tene beat her mother-in-law, causing head trauma and knocking out several of the elderly woman's teeth.

City police believe a woman wanted for assault and elderly abuse is hiding out in the New York/New Jersey area and cops are seeking help from the public.

Detective Capt. Tim Torell reported that Mary Tene, 54, has an extensive violent criminal record spanning through four states including New York and New Jersey and should be considered extremely dangerous. She also goes by several aliases, police said.

Tene is accused of having severely beaten her 82-year old mother-in-law late Wednesday night in the elderly woman's Englewood apartment.

According to Torell the elderly female claims she was trying to counsel Tene about her drug problem when she was attacked. Tene and her husband fled the apartment before officers arrived, police said.

Torell described the elderly woman as being in "rough shape" when officers arrived at her apartment that night. She sustained numerous injuries including head trauma and several lost teeth, said Torell.

She was taken to Englewood Hospital and is expected to survive.

Torell said police believe Tene is hiding out with her husband.

“She is believed to be hiding in a motel somewhere between here and New York City. To say we would like her in custody is an understatement. As you can see, she is very distinctive looking and we could really use the help of the public on this one. There may be more arrests as our investigation progresses,” Torell said in a statement.

Tene is wanted for second degree aggravated assault and elderly abuse. Anyone with any information on her whereabouts can call the Englewood Police Department at 201-568-2700.
