Englewood Shop Rite, Center for Food Action Participate in Annual Food Drive
Action Against Hunger is set for Oct. 6

Englewood's Shop Rite and the Center for Food Action will both serve as drop-off locations during the Oct. 6 annual Action Against Hunger Food Drive which sets out to replenish the shelves of food pantries all over the state.
“Giving Locally equals helping locally. The Action Against Hunge Food Drive is one of the most important food drives of the year for the Center for Food Action (CFA). The food donated during last year’s drive made it possible for CFA to distribute over 67,000 food packages to local individuals and families in need,” said Jennifer Johnson-Rothman, Director of Communications of The Center for Food Action. “
When individuals and groups support this call to action, they are doing more than just donating food; they are giving hope, health and support to the tens of thousands of people in our area who are struggling to put food on their table during these very troubling times.”
The 22nd annual food drive sponsored by the North Jersey Media Group Foundation supports 65 food pantries who serve 40,000 clients.
The most-needed items include nonperishable nutritious foods such as canned vegetables, meats, fish and fruits; hearty soups and stews; pasta; white and brown rice; peanut butter; enriched cereals; oatmeal, pancake mix, and powdered or evaporated milk; 100 percent fruit juice; baby formula; and low-sugar and low-sodium foods for those with special dietary needs. Organizers request that no glass containers or outdated items be donated.
Items can be dropped off at Shop Rite (40 Nathaniel Place) or the Center for Food Action (192 W. Demarest Avenue) on Sunday, Oct. 6 from 12 to 4 p.m.
Contributions can be made online at www.ActionAgainstHunger.com or mailed to North Jersey Media Group Foundation, c/o Legal Department, P.O. Box 75, Hackensack, NJ 07602-9192. One hundred percent of all donations go to those in need.
