Englewood Student Wins Scholarship Worth $80K Over Next 2 Years
Weeks after getting picked for NJ All-State Academic Team, Genesis Capellan secured major a scholarship of $40,000 per year.

ENGLEWOOD, NJ —Just last month Englewood student Genesis Capellan got picked for NJ All-State Academic Team, and now she secured a major scholarship worth $80,000 over the span of the next two years.
She is one of four Bergen Community College students earning a Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship, which provides up to $40,000 per academic year for each student to complete a bachelor’s degree.
It's the first time four students from Bergen Community College have receiver this distinction in the same year.

“It’s rare for a community college to have a student receive this prestigious honor," President Eric M. Friedman said in a statement. "To have four receive it in the same year speaks to the incredible aptitude, character and resolve of Bergen students."
Capellan is a professional studies major and an ambassador for the Violence Intervention Prevention Center. She recently sang the national anthem at the College’s 2021 commencement exercise

She racked up her third academic recognition this year, after being awarded a $1,500 scholarship from the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and entry into the NJ All-State Academic Team.
"This life-changing scholarship will help them continue on a path for success," Friedman also said.
