Englewood Voters Offer Big Support for Cory Booker

Newark mayor takes more than 80 percent of the Englewood vote for senate primary.

Newark mayor Cory Booker received a heaping of support from Englewood voters on Monday, taking 81.8 percent of all votes cast by Democrats on primary day.

According to unofficial election results released by the Englewood City Clerk, the well-funded Booker grabbed 2148 of 2624 votes for the Democratic nomination in the upcoming special senate election. Booker trounced his opponents state-wide (taking 60 percent of the vote) and in Englewood.

Rep. Rush Holt received the second-highest number of votes in Englewood, checking in at 308. Rep. Frank Pallone, who was endorsed by the late Frank Lautenberg's family, received 128 votes, and Speaker Sheila Oliver scooped up just 40 votes.

Republican Steve Lonegan, a former mayor of Bogota, received 125 votes, easily defeating physician Alieta Eck, who had 27 votes.

Booker's win was overwhelming. He took 18 of the state's 21 counties, losing to Pallone in Monmouth County -- Pallone's home county -- and to Holt in Mercer and Hunterdon counties.

Lonegan's win was complete. He handily won in all 21 counties in the state.
