Nearly 2,000 parents were jailed or sentenced to home confinement last year for failing to pay child support.

Nearly 2,000 parents were jailed or sentenced to home confinement last year in Bergen and Passaic counties for failing to pay child support.

Those men and women are among thousands statewide who continuously cycle through the court system, telling judges they simply don’t have any money, according to a Bergen Record report.

Authorities currently have 33,000 active arrest warrants in New Jersey for delinquent parents and there is a total of $2.9 billion in unpaid child support throughout the state, the report said.
