LG Holding Student Poster Contest

The environmental sustainability poster contest will be open to kindergarten through eight grade students of Englewood, Englewood Cliffs, Fort Lee and Tenafly.

LG Electronics USA has announced an environmental poster contest for elementary and middle school students in Englewood and surrounding towns that the company hopes will be part of an effort to integrate a planned new Englewood Cliffs headquarters into the surrounding community.

The poster contest is open to students in kindergarten through eighth grade, who will be judged based on their ability to demonstrate ways that consumers and their families can use science and technology to protect the environment.

One first prize winner from each grade will receive LG products, and the posters should represent ideas, the company says, for exhibits at a planned science center at the new Englewood Cliffs headquarters.

“We’re excited to launch this new contest during Earth Week 2013 and to work with the community to integrate students’ ideas into our building project,” company vice president I.D. Kim said. “LG’s new science center represents an important way for LG to give back to a community has been our home for the past 25 years.

“We look forward to partnering with the community to ensure that we are building an office park that can enrich lives and can be enjoyed by all local citizens.”

The outreach comes just before the start next month of mediation arising from a lawsuit by local residents and Palisades conservationists over the development of the corporate complex, which some say will obstruct views and undermine efforts to preserve the park from development.

Students in Englewood, Englewood Cliffs, Fort Lee and Tenafly are eligible for the contest, which will end May 24.
