Trustees Deadlocked on Renewing Contracts of Private Staffing Firms, Report Says

Move doesn't appear to signify the return of staffers laid off a year ago.

The Englewood Board of Education on Friday morning deadlocked on renewing the contracts of two private firms that replaced nearly 100 secretaries and teacher's aides amidst controversy a year ago.

According to a report on northjersey.com, the decision to renew two private firms hit a 4-4 voting impasse. One member, Molly Craig-Berry, was absent.

Firm Delta T was scheduled to receive a 30 percent contract increase, up to $2.2 million while Mission One would have been reduced from $832,000 to $775,000, the news site reported.

The board can call another meeting before the July 1 deadline to vote on the same contracts or amended versions, accordin to the report.

Trustees laid off district staffers last year claiming it was necessary to bridge a $4 million budget gap. It sparked outrage among parents and the teacher's union. The Record reported many administrators and district staffers have been dissastisfied with the performance of Mission T.
