Acclaimed Folk Artists Band Together For “Traditionsfest 2019”

Chart-Topping Performers Meghan Cary and Christine Lavin Are Just A Few Scheduled To Perform The January 5 Show

Some of the biggest names in the Folk industry are showing their support for one of the longest-running, non-commercial radio stations in the New Jersey region – WFDU FM, home to the renowned folk show “Traditions With Ron Olesko”. “Traditionsfest 2019,”which will be held at the Hurdy Gurdy Folk Music Clubon Saturday, January 5, will include featured artists Meghan Cary, Christine Lavin, Rob Carlson, and Eleanor Kleiner with Elie Brangbour of The Whispering Tree.

Her first year performing the benefit, Cary will play a selection of songs from her latest album Sing Louder as well as a few of her most beloved tunes from her catalog with fellow bandmate and husband Peter Farrell. Sing Louder, which debuted among the top 10 on the US / International Folk DJ Radio Charts, is being played at mainstream radio in more than 40 markets throughout the country and in Canada. Continuing to resonate with fans with its poignant, heartfelt messages and beautifully-orchestrated melodies, Cary’s newest collection of songs has kept her on the road for the past year, playing at some of the most renowned festivals and venues up and down the East Coast.

“I’m thrilled to be kicking off the New Year on the stage with some of my favorite artists including my folk music idol, Christine Lavin,” said Cary. “Ron Olesko has been such a big supporter of my music and I’m thrilled to be able to give back to him by supporting his show, ‘Traditions’. Also climbing the charts with her latest release Spaghettification, folk icon Lavin’s 23rd solo album ranked fifth on the International Folk DJ chart in September and continues to resonates with fans. In addition to recording her own music, she has produced 10 compilation albums that showcase the work of artists she loves with the most recent Just One Angel, v2.

Carlson, a singer, writer, comedian and producer, is best known as one-third of the acclaimed trio Modern Man. He has led several different bands throughout his career including the critically-acclaimed Benefit Street Band and later went on to work on radio where he recorded song parodies and comedy bits for the American Comedy Network and the ABC Radio Networks. Recently taking his songwriting to "new places that defy categorization,” Carlson will perform an assortment of his songs during the show.

Rounding out the featured artist lineup is The Whispering Tree-singer-songwriter Eleanor Kleinerand instrumentalist Elie Brangbour. This Franco-American folk-rock duo’s music encompasses traditional folk, indie rock, classic rock and 1960s rock and roll. Describing their sound as “flowing with evocative lyrics, nature-inspired imagery, and perspectives gained from travel,” they released their second album Invisible Forces in August 2018. The duo has been compared favorably to the Cowboy Junkies, Over the Rhine and Aimee.

“Traditionsfest 2019” starts at 8 PM and tickets are $25, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to WFDU. The Hurdy Gurdy is located at the Fair Lawn Community Center at 10-10 20thStreet, Fair Lawn, NJ.
