Fair Lawn Fireworks Show Rescheduled Ahead Of Storms, Heat
The borough has rescheduled the event for September as a heatwave is forecasted to sweep through NJ, officials announced on Tuesday morning.
FAIR LAWN, NJ — Excessive heat and potential thunderstorms in the forecast have forced Fair Lawn officials to cancel the borough's fireworks show scheduled for Tuesday. However, the show has been rescheduled.
Borough officials announced the decision on Tuesday morning, citing "inclement weather" as the National Weather Service forecasts heat index values of up to 100 degrees or higher. A heat advisory is in effect beginning at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, and will last until Wednesday night.
Adding insult to injury, showers and thunderstorms are also likely for Tuesday night. Some storms could be severe, with "gusty winds and heavy rain," according to the National Weather Service.

He also offered a behind the scenes look of what went into the decision:
"This morning I put on my Fireworks Committee T-Shirt and was looking forward to celebrating our independence as a nation with the rest of Fair Lawn. When I got to borough hall I was informed that the Borough Manager and Superintendent of Parks and Recreation made the decision to postpone the event due to the weather. No one wanted to postpone this event, twice, and it’s a lot of work to reschedule these events for so many of our professionals. The fireworks are done by an outside vendor and our Recreation department has to work with all of our outside vendors to find a suitable date that works for everyone. We apologize if the new date does not work for anyone, the recreation department will provide a full refund for you if the new date does not work, you just need to contact the recreation department. We hope everyone can make it on September 5th. September is the month our Constitution was ratified and we can all celebrate coming together as a nation."
