Fair Lawn Police Officer Ed Egan Died Monday

Egan, a 20-year veteran, had been battling cancer and heart issues, but had been doing light duty while receiving treatment, police said.

FAIR LAWN, NJ — Borough police Officer Ed Egan died Monday.

Sgt. Brian Metzler confirmed Egan's death late Monday night.

Egan had been battling heart issues and cancer, but had been coming to work on light duty while receiving treatment, Metzler said.

Egan was a 20-year department veteran. He was 52, Daily Voice reported.

Egan was also a firefighter with Fair Lawn Fire Co. 2.

"Ed Egan was a good friend of many and a great person to work along side with," a post on Fair Lawn Fire Co. 4's Facebook page read. "Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. Rest easy, Ed."

Egan was a former corrections officer and was a Fair Lawn native. He attended Fair Lawn High School.

The Paramus Police Department extended its condolences to the Fair Lawn Police Department and Egan's family online after news of Egan's death broke.

"The thoughts and prayers of the Paramus Police Department go out to the family of Police Officer Eddie Egan and our brothers and sisters of the Fair Lawn Police Department," Paramus police said.
