Former Saddle Brook Police Officer George Alfano Died Tuesday

Alfano was a captain with the Bergen County Society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

SADDLE BROOK, N.J. — Special police officer George Alfano, of Saddle Brook, died Tuesday, the police department announced.

Alfano was a Saddle Brook Police officer, retiring from the department with the rank of lieutenant and a was a member of the department's pistol team. Subsequently, he became a special police officer.

He was also a captain with the Bergen County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, police said.

Alfano was a master machinist. He was an HVAC installer for Jim Alfano Company and was a HVAC instructor for Lincoln Technical School in Mahwah until he retired.

He was a member of the Paramus Elks Lodge No. 2001 and was a member and treasurer of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society.

The department expressed its condolences to Alfano's family.

Alfano is survived by his wife Barbara, son James, and his wife Cathleen; daughters Maria Adrignola-Perez, and her husband David and Laura Konovitch, and her husband Kevin; 11 grandchildren and sister Jean Pomante.
