Glen Rock Fair Lawn CSA Accepting New Members

CSA Gives Locals Access to Affordable Organics

When my husband and I moved to Fair Lawn in 2014, we lamented the fact that we would likely have to stop being members of the Bloomfield-Montclair CSA. For years, we had enjoyed fresh, organic vegetables all grown on one local farm in Andover, NJ. We had made many visits to the farm, and felt a strong connection to John Krueger, fondly referred to as Farmer John. For 15 years, Farmer John has been the farmer for many local CSAs - Community Supported Agriculture groups. CSAs are groups that partner with a farmer to receive weekly vegetables from during the NJ growing season - from June until November.

We decided that instead of giving up something that we love so much, we would start our own CSA group here in Fair Lawn. We started off in 2015 with just a few members, and have grown since then. There are so many reasons why we love being a part of a CSA - the connection with the farmer, the connection with our community, and of course, the organic vegetables keep us healthy. They are much more affordable than going to the grocery store, and getting the variety from the farmer has us try different foods that are in season, fresh and delicious. There is so much talk about what people can be doing to help prevent climate change, and getting your food locally is a great way of limiting your own carbon footprint. One other thing I am really proud of is that we donate lots of vegetables every week to the Fair Lawn Food Pantry - providing healthy food to people in our community in need.
