Pascrell: If Support Overturning Election, Lose Seat In Congress
NJ Rep. Bill Pascrell believes that Republicans in support of a lawsuit seeking to overturn the election are violating the Constitution.

PATERSON, NJ — Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr. is urging Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to deny congressional seats to any elected official who's actively supporting President Donald Trump's attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
Never one to shy away from jabs at the president's Republican Party, Pascrell invoked the 14th Amendment in saying that supporting the president's efforts is disqualifying for a seat in government.
Section 3 of the 14th reads:

"No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any state legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any state, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof…
According to Pascrell, recent efforts by the president, and subsequent support of those efforts, fit this criteria.
"Donald Trump and other prominent Republicans have commenced a daily assault on the legitimacy of the election that includes filing dozens of frivolous lawsuits seeking to have the results invalidated," said Pascrell. "Tragically, Members of our House of Representatives are supporting and amplifying these attacks on democracy, now culminating in 126 House Republicans joining a malignant lawsuit filed by the state of Texas against the states of Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin."

The suit Pascrell referenced claims that Pennsylvania, Georgia, Wisconsin and Michigan compromised the election through last-minute changes to election law.
On Friday, New Jersey Congressman Jeff Van Drew joined the group of Republicans in support of the lawsuit.

Pascrell has been vocal in opposing efforts from Trump and his legal team since Joe Biden was declared the president-elect.
Recently, he went as far as to write letters to the bar authorities of Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, New York and Pennsylvania, seeking the disbarment of former New York City Mayor and Trump legal team leader Rudolph Giuliani and 22 other Trump attorneys.
