Stories to Watch in 2014
Here's a look at some of the ongoing issues in Fair Lawn and Saddle Brook.

The upcoming year will likely see progression in ongoing stories from Fair Lawn and Saddle Brook.
- Construction on the new inclusionary playground at Berdan Grove is expected to get underway this spring. The ADA Committee is still seeking donations to help pay for future phases of the project.
- Fair Lawn officials have plans for several road projects designed to improve pedestrian safety. Besides banning right-on-red turns at Saddle River Road and Fair Lawn Avenue, officials plan to build "bump-outs" on Broadway and Fair Lawn Ave., possibly starting as soon as next summer.
- Local government and school officials will again have to approve budgets this year. In 2013, Fair Lawn saw a 1.37 percent municipal tax levy increase and a 0.85 percent school tax levy increase. Saddle Brook schools had a 2 percent tax increase and the municipal levy increased by about 1.78 percent.
- A project to clean and repaint the water tower on Morlot Avenue, which started this fall, is expected to be completed this year.
- Fair Lawn officials are expected to continue examining how the borough minibus service is operated in 2014.
