Fort Lee Middle School Girls Soccer Team Makes History

The Lewis F. Middle School has proudly initiated a new athletic program for seventh and eighth grade girls. For School Year, 2016-17, Fort Lee now has a Middle School Girls Soccer program.

With the help of a grant procured by the Fort Lee High School Athletic Director Michael Raftery, and under the auspices of the Fort Lee Girls Varsity Soccer Coach, Cal Pagano, a program had been put together to develop new players and to generate some new excitement in Fort Lee for Girls Soccer.

Since August, Coaches Kristina Leale and Brianna Mattessich have been working with over twenty players that joined the program through recruitment and a general sign-up. This group included all levels from travel players to beginners. This was not an easy task, integrating all of these players into a solid unit. But on Friday, September 30, 2016, these efforts paid off. In the very first game ever for the Lewis F. Cole Middle School Girls Soccer Team, our girls triumphed over Garfield, 5-0. It was a tribute to hard work and dedication by the entire group.

Led by our three captains, Amy Diaz, Gaby Garita, and Angelina Vargas, with excellent play by goalie Vivian O’Loughlin, Fort Lee dominated the game with a slashing, non-stop attacking offense and a stellar defense. We look forward to continued success this week on Thursday against Bergenfield.
