Fire Consumes Entire Five-Story Apartment Building In Fort Lee

FORT LEE, NJ — A fast-moving fire at a Hudson Terrace apartment building displaced residents and sent two responders to the hospital Saturday, according to the Fort Lee Fire Department.

Firefighters from multiple fire departments were dispatched to the burning building at around 3:30 p.m. to battle the blaze, which began on the second floor, officials said.

The fire quickly extended to the upper floors, with flames blasting throughout most of the day and eventually consuming the entire building. It was only brought under control at around 1:25 a.m. Sunday, officials said.

"These fires spread very quickly because of the design of these buildings and the age of these buildings," Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich told NorthJersey.com.

All residents of the building were accounted for, and two firefighters were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Fort Lee Fire Department.

The cause of the fire was still being investigated as of Sunday, officials said.
