Fort Lee Announces Details On The Return To Normalcy

Some public buildings will reopen on June 1, others in the upcoming weeks, and there are many programs planned for the summer.

FORT LEE, NJ —Fort Lee has laid out plans for the return to normalcy. Or at some normalcy. Starting June 1 public buildings, like Borough Hall, are going to start reopening.

"We're returning to normalcy, slowly but surely" Mayor Mark Sokolich.

Not all buildings will be reopening right away, however. For example, the Community Center, which has been serving as a vaccination site, will reopen only in the coming weeks, at a gradual pace.

The Public Library Library will continue requiring visitors and staff to wear a mask for the time being, as many people who visit are not yet eligible for the vaccine. Items can now be returned inside the library during operating hours, and starting June 21 there will be limited seating and computer use.

"The last year and a half, dealing with the CODIV-19 pandemic, has been a struggle, and we're thrilled that there is light at the end of the tunnel," Borough Administrator Al Restaino said.

The Summer Concert Series will begin on July 13, and the Summer Movie Series will start on July 15.

The recreation department has a number of activities planned for the summer, like the Mini-Camps and summer Outdoor Playground Program. The Spray Park and Wading Pools are scheduled to open on June 30.

Exercise classes that have been held outdoors for the past few weeks are going to be moved into the largest room of the Senior Center, allowing for some social distancing. Classes will be held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at the same schedule.

There will also be daily grab-and-go lunches for consumers on the lunch list, served from 11:30 a.m to 1 p.m.

Those who have not been vaccinated should continue wearing a mask inside public buildings.
