Little League Looks to Sell Advertising at State-of-The-Art New Facility

Fort the right price, businesses and clubs can buy advertising signs to be displayed at the ballpark or even sponsor a team

In 2010, the Fort Lee American Little League celebrated its first year playing baseball on its newly renovated, state-of-the-art baseball field on Anderson Ave. The league hosted the 11/12 year old tournament for the District 6 finals, with Fort Lee’s own 11/12-year-old All-Star team winning the title. The new field is also home to championship teams from 2009 and 2010.

But such success—not to mention astroturf, handicapped accessibility, state of the art scoreboards, dugouts, clubhouses and press boxes—don’t come without a cost. That’s why the little league is currently seeking sponsors to buy advertising space at the field and even to sponsor teams in the league.

Sponsorship of the Little League and its field can take many forms. The first is greatly appreciated and needed for the ongoing maintenance and use of the field, as well as replacement of seasonal baseball equipment. With your support, we can continue to offer the children of Fort Lee a beautiful facility and a place to play baseball throughout the year. Since the field opened, in addition to seasonal baseball, it has been used by soccer, several baseball all-star teams, in and out of town travel teams, and a fall baseball clinic. The time spent playing in a safe and modern park will ensure fond and lasting memories for our children and their families.

“That’s how we make our money every year, said Richard Radoian, President of the league for the past 25 Years. “We’ve got 190 kids. The high school girls’ softball plays there. We’ve got spring and fall ball playing there. We’ve got seven different towns from the East Bergen area of New Jersey around Fort Lee that play there. It’s good exposure for these businesses.”

For $250, your business can put up a 4’ x 4’ foot sign along the outfield fence for the season. Every year after that, the same sign will cost your business just $150.

“There’s always space to put signs up,” Radoian said. “When we do the whole outfield, then we start doing the sides.”

There are special signs around the scoreboard, although such prime spots could cost upwards to $1,000, and Radoian said he’s looking at doing something with the roofs of the dugouts this year.

Radoian said proceeds from the advertising sales, including the heftier cost of sponsoring an entire team with caps and t-shirts for the younger kids and full uniforms for the major leaguers, go entirely to the league to cover insurance, uniforms and equipment.

“It costs money to run a league,” he said.

The longtime Fort Lee resident, former cop and firefighter and now 25th year coach said people who haven’t had a chance to check out the new field at ….. truly don’t know what they’re missing.

“The field is gorgeous,” Radoian said. “I can’t brag enough about it. The only speck of dirt on the field is the pitching mound, and that’s little league rule, so the rest of it’s Astroturf. It’s a lot less work for the coaches and the guys. Last year we didn’t have one rainout. If the rain and the lighting stops, we’re playing.”

He joked that the facility is so nice, “half of my coaches don’t even have any kids in the league any more … We did this stuff to keep the guys interested. From April through October, they just hang out there.”
