21 Children Stuck On GW Bridge Saved By NJ Transit Driver

The school bus the children were driving on had a tire blowout and the NJ Transit driver took them to to a bus station.

FORT LEE, NJ — A NJ Transit bus driver came to the rescue when 21 children got stuck on the George Washington Bridge on Monday afternoon.

Just before 5 p.m., the school bus the children we riding in had a tire blowout on the bridge and was no longer able to move.

While they were waiting for a tow truck to arrive, James Desir stopped his NJ Transit bus and helped police get the children onto it.

Desir safely drove all of the children and their chaperones to the George Washington Bridge bus station.

NJ Transit sent out a statement applauding Desir for "going above and beyond the call of duty" to help the community.
