Mayor: Fort Lee Not Reason Ironman Won’t Be Back in 2013

Just a day after the Fort Lee Mayor and Council issued proclamations recognizing competitors and the many volunteers who played an integral role in making the New York City area’s first Ironman U.S. Championship a local success, the Ironman organization dropped the bombshell, announcing that the competition would not be returning to the New York City metropolitan area next year.

Mayor says the proposed affordable and special-needs-designated units at 69 Main St. should satisfy Fort Lee’s requirements “attributable to Redevelopment 5.”

Fort Lee Police Hold Retirement Ceremony

The Fort Lee Police Department held a retirement ceremony for four members who have retired from the force. Fort Lee Police Chief Thomas O. Ripoli honored Lt. Scott Bendul, Sgt. John Klein, Det. James Hunt and P.O. Steve Pumilia Wednesday with a flag ceremony in front of the Fort Lee Police Station.

Johnny Damato Donor Awareness Blood Drive Planned for October

Family and friends of a 16-year-old Fort Lee youth who received a heart transplant in June are planning a fundraiser and blood drive on Oct. 21 at the Fort Lee Recreation Center.

School Bus Fire Blocks Hudson Terrace

A school bus was destroyed when it caught fire on Hudson Terrace, near 8th Street, Wednesday afternoon in Englewood Cliffs. No children were on board the First Student bus and there were no injuries, officials on the scene said. Firefighters used foam to knock down the flames, which had engulfed the front of the bus.
