Number two:

On Tuesday the Fort Lee Republican Club is hosting several Republican candidates for freeholder, who will speak about their policy positions for the upcoming elections.

“Fort Lee is a very, very big district for them,” Fort Lee Republican Club David Cohen said. “Even though Fort Lee is seen as a Democratic town, it’s prize for candidates in any party and especially for those who wants to come and make some headway in the primary and talk about what the believe in.”

That event takes place Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the VFW on Main St. and Center Ave.

Number three

The Fort Lee Coalition of the Arts, in affiliation with The Fort Lee Film Commission, will be sponsoring a John Barrymore birthday party fundraiser in order to finance a Shakespeare workshop and performance by the Hudson Shakespeare Company for Fort Lee High School. The performance will be for students of the Academy of Performing Arts program. The fundraiser takes place Tuesday at In Napoli restaurant at 116 Main St. from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $15, and there will be an open cash bar and free appetizers. Those attending are encouraged to have fun and remember that the event is for the children. An open donation bucket will be on display.

Number four:

Longtime Fort Lee artist Barry Shiff has a collection of his paintings on display at the Fort Lee Public Library gallery on lower level of library throughout February.

Barry Shiff is an artist very concerned with locations—what a place, or even a specific street corner, looked like then versus now.

Of the sixteen paintings in the show, perhaps the most evocative of this February season is Shiff’s depiction of the Westwood train depot – its roof covered in snow, grey steam rising from the smokestack of the arriving locomotive.

Number five:

And in sports, the Fort Lee Bridgemen basketball team will host Cliffside Park on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Rutherford on Saturday beginning at 1:30 p.m. The Lady Bridgemen, who play four games this week, play host Tenafly on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Lady Bridgemen also close the week hosting Rutherford on Saturday at noon. Both the boys’ and girls games that day will be a part of a cancer benefit initiative by the Fort Lee Athletics Program.
