3 Crossing Guard Locations Eliminated in Hackettstown

One new location was added, police said.

Sgt. Darren Tynan of the Hackettstown Police said the police have eliminated three crossing guard locations days before the start of the next school year.

One of those locations is at the intersection of High Street and Cook Street, and another is on Cook Street in front of Saint Mary's. The third position eliminated is at the intersection of Main Street and Center Street.

One crossing guard location was added, at the intersection of Madison and Warren Streets, Tynan said, "due to pedestrian safety issues in that area."

The change will be on a trial basis to see if the crossing guard helps make the area safer for children walking to and from school.

The total list of crossing guard locations for the school year are:

1. Arthur Terrace behind Hackettstown High School
2. Warren Street at the entrance to the High School
3. Madison Street and West Plane Street
4. Pine Street and Willow Grove Street
5. Washington Street and Center Street
6. Washington Street and Warren Street
7. Main Street and West Plane St
8. Fifth Avenue at the entrance to Hatchery Hill School
9. Washington Street and West Plane Street
10. Center Street and Madison Street
11. Madison Street and Warren Street

Tynan reminded parents "to tell their kids if they have to cross the street, use the locations where there are crossing guards."
