The Centenary College Enactus team finished in the top 40 of the 158 Colleges that competed in the National Competition recently in Kansas City, Missouri. The Hackettstown-based team, which was named Regional Champions at the Enactus United States Regional Competition in April, placed as first runner-up in the opening round of the competition.
The Centenary Enactus team will continue working during the summer on their projects by traveling to Guapi, Colombia for project related research and will continue their work in the next academic year in preparation for the 2014 competitions.

“Centenary’s Enactus team has a lot to be proud of,” said Professor Kathy Naasz, associate professor of Business at Centenary College and Centenary College Enactus advisor. “This is a committed group of students who have invested countless hours in their projects. In addition, we did not settle for the easy nor convenient projects. We focused on those truly in need, such as battered women, at-risk inner city youth, and an impoverished village in Colombia, and successfully tackled difficult projects by shifting business models to a new and effective version.”
Centenary College is one of more than 500 Enactus programs in the United States. Participating students use business concepts to develop community outreach projects, transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world.

During this academic year, the Enactus Centenary College team organized six projects in the local, regional and international communities, including the Guapi Hope Leaf Project, in which artisans in Guapi, Colombia were able to double their standard of living; and the Next Step Project, which focuses on mentoring youth in Newark about academic options after high school.
The culmination of the Enactus program is an annual series of competitions that provides a showcase for teams to present the results of their projects and be evaluated by business leaders serving as judges. Teams compete first at the regional and national levels.
The national champion teams from each country meet at the Enactus World Cup.
