Hackettstown Teens Wash Cars to Help Local Family

More than $1,000 raised at car wash outside Hackettstown McDonald's.

A group of teenagers from Hackettstown, Long Valley and surrounding towns gathered to clean cars for a cause on Tuesday.

Nearly 30 teens gathered at McDonald's in Hackettstown to hose down vehicles and collect funds for the family of Timmy Cooper, a young boy who recently died. The car wash event was organized by two 13-year-olds, Rylee Legriede and Ashley Digney, according to a post on Patch by Patrice Schaffer, one of the chaperones of the event.

In the end, more than $1,000 was raised.

"The rainy weather didn't even impact the event as many people who came by donated without even having their cars washed. They knew it was for a good cause and wanted to help out and donate," Schaffer said. "The outpouring of love was phenomenal."
