Man Arested In Hackettstown Sentenced To 21 Months In Prison
The Wayne resident pointed a gun at two people by the Delaware River and stuck one of them, according to court records.
HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — A Wayne man arrested in Hackettstown after pointing a gun at two people and striking one of them in the head was sentenced to 21 months in prison, police said.
Jeffrey A. Mulcahy, 59, pleaded guilty in court to one count of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm.
The incident happened back in September 2019, when the two victims were swimming in the Delaware River in the Kittatinny Point area of the Delaware Water Gap, in Warren County.

Mulcahy approached them and started talking about fishing. He left and returned 15 minutes later with a can of beer, becoming agitated after a while and taking out a gun from his waistband to point it at one person's head, according to court records. The weapon was later determined to be a pellet gun.
Mulcahy ordered both victims to the ground, eventually shifting his aim to the other victim. He threatened to kill and struck this person's neck with the weapon.

He took out some rope and trying to tie that same person's hands behind their back, but the victim resisted and took Mulcahy down to the ground.
As the two struggled, Mulcahy's gun fell out and the other victim, standing by, was able to collect the gun and run to get help.
The victim who had struggled with Mulcahy eventually was able to reunite with the other person, while Mulcahy left the area. He was later arrested in Hackettstown.
In addition to the 21 months in prison, Mulcahy was also sentenced to three years of supervised release and fined $2,000.
