Mars Chocolate Employee Suffers Serious Peanut Oil Burns

Victim was flown to St. Barnabas Medical Center's burn unit for treatment.

A Mars Chocolate North America employee suffered second- and third-degree burns to his hand and leg following a Friday morning involving hot peanut oil, Hackettstown Police said.

Police officers and the Hackettstown Rescue Squad responded to the Mars location at 800 High St. for a report of a burn victim at about 10 a.m., Detective Sgt. Darren Tynan said. The officers determined an employee sustained serious burns while working with hot peanut oil. The victim was flown to St Barnabas Medical Center.

The St. Clare's Medic Unit assisted at the scene, he said. 

The victim's condition was not immediately known Friday afternoon.
