Police Log: Hit-And-Run, Drugs, And Warrants Among Recent Complaints in Hackettstown

Mansfield man allegedly strikes telephone pole while drunk; then drives to Wells Fargo Bank.

Hackettstown Police find marijuana, warrants, and arrest a drunk driver this past weekend. In their reports:

Aug. 18: Hit-and-Run

At approximately 3:23 PM, the Hackettstown Police responded to a report of a hit-and-run at Wells Fargo Bank. After an investigation, police reported that the 53-year-old driver, of Mansfield Township, was traveling north on Route 517 in a 2009 Mercury when he struck a telephone pole. The driver then continued on his way, police said, to the Wells Fargo Bank. Police detected alcohol on his breath, according to reports. That individual was charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident and then was released pending a court appearance.

Aug. 19: Traffic warrant arrest

Hackettstown Police arrested a 24-year-old from Mansfield on an $81.00 Hackettstown municipal court traffic warrant. He posted the bail and was then released.

Aug. 20: Underage drinking and warrant arrest

At approximately 12:25AM, a Hackettstown Police officer was patrolling the parking lot of 109 Grand Avenue, when the officer spotted two individuals standing between two vehicles with an open container of alcohol on the ground. The one individual opened the car door to retrieve his identification and the officer then detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The male was identified as a 19-year-old from Allamuchy Township, NJ. Through an investigation it was determined that he had in his possession a bag containing suspected marijuana and a 6-pack of alcohol that contained 4 of the 6 six bottles. The opened bottle of alcohol on the ground matched the 6-pack that individual had in his possession. He was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of CDS in a motor vehicle, possession of an open container of alcohol in public and possession/consumption of alcohol by a minor, and then he was released pending a court appearance.

Hackettstown Police arrested a 21-year-old from Washington Township in Morris County on a $500.00 Hackettstown municipal court warrant. He was unable to post the bail and was consequently lodged in the Warren County Correctional Facility.

Aug. 21: Warrant arrests

Att approximately 5:05PM, a Hackettstown Police Officer stopped a car on Mountain Avenue for a moving violation. The driver didn’t produce a driver’s license to the officer and provided the name of Hugo Teves. Through an investigation it was determined that the driver was actually a 32-year-old with a different name, from Paterson, NJ. A front seat passenger was not wearing a seat belt and she also didn’t produce identification. She provided the name of Jessica Hernandes to the officer. It was determined that she had a different name and that she was from Paterson, NJ. She had a $500.00 Englishtown municipal court traffic warrant, a $500.00 Paterson municipal court traffic warrant, and a $500.00 Passaic City municipal court traffic warrant. A back seat passenger was not wearing a seat belt and he was identified as a 33-year-old from Paterson, NJ. That individual had a $100.00 Paterson municipal court warrant, a $500.00 Paterson municipal court warrant, and was a NJ Wanted Person out of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office for non-payment of child support in the amount of $3,784.75. The driver was charged with hindering, driving while suspended, having a headlight out and failure to produce driver’s license. He was released pending a court appearance. The front seat passenger was charged with hindering and was released on the Hackettstown charge but was then turned over to Englishtown Police Department. The individual in the back seat was turned over to the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office.

Hackettstown Police arrested a 22-year-old from Bear Creek Village, PA on a NJ wanted person warrant that was issued by the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office. The original offense was for Larceny. That individual was then turned over to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
