Route 57 Bridge Work Done Ahead of Schedule

Three bridges in Mansfield restored to state of good repair.

Bridge replacement projects on Route 57 in Mansfield have been completed ahead of schedule, the state announced Tuesday.

The bridge repairs were part of an ongoing $1.8 million project after the bridges were deemed structurally-deficient.

Detours that were imposed during construction activities have since been lifted and normal traffic patterns have resumed, the New Jersey Department of Transportation said in a press release. The project was initially scheduled for completion about three weeks from now.

“Upgrading these Route 57 bridges from the structurally-deficient list to a state-of-good repair exemplifies the Christie Administration’s commitment to improving the state's aging highway bridges,” said Commissioner James Simpson.

Work began in February, as H&G Contractors replaced the superstructures of two Route 57 bridges over the Musconetcong River and one over Hances Brook. The bridges over the Musconetcong River were completed in June and the Hances Brook bridge was completed after.

Still left to be completed, the contractor will finish off minor details, with construction expected to be fully completed by the fall. Work was initially scheduled to be complete by early 2014.
