Several of the founding student members of the newly established Phi Alpha at Centenary transferred to the BSW Program after completing an Associate’s degree in Human Services at SCCC.  Phi Alpha member Susan King, who nominated Jones, identified her as “the reason I changed my major to Social Work.” King explained, “Jan never once swayed me in making my decision, but guided me…to evaluate who I really was, and what meant the most to me.”

Mike Devilliers, a Phi Alpha member and Army veteran, noted that Jones has been instrumental in developing valuable resources for student veterans at SCCC.  Students were on hand to present Jones with a certificate and Phi Alpha pin at the BSW Program Advisory Board’s annual dinner meeting.

The Centenary College BSW Program, nationally accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, graduated its inaugural class of three students in 2008.   The Class of 2013 was its largest to date, with 17 students earning their Bachelor of Social Work at Centenary this month.

The purpose of the Phi Alpha Honor Society is to provide a closer bond among students of social work and to promote humanitarian goals and ideals.
