A nine-foot difference of opinion led to the accident on Grand Avenue, police said.
HACKETTSTOWN, NJ - Those stuck in traffic on Grand Avenue during rush hour Feb. 3 have a misunderstanding between a truck and an overpass to blame, according to the Hackettstown Police Department.
Shortly after 8 a.m. the Hackettstown police responded to Grand Avenue for a report of a tractor-trailer that struck the underpass. Police said that 58-year-old Walter Jones of Florence, SC, was travelling south and mistook the 10’-8” sign as reading 19’-8”.
Grand Avenue was closed between College View Drive and Allen Road for approximately 1 hour. Assisting at the scene were the New Jersey State Police and Mansfield Township Police.
