NJ Diabetes Foundation Launches Be An Everyday Hero Campaign
Initiative aims to engage the larger community to support the work and services of the Diabetes Foundation for those living with diabetes
HACKENSACK, NJ – December 2, 2019 – The Diabetes Foundation, New Jersey’s premier not-for-profit organization that empowers individuals living with diabetes, has announced the launch of a new campaign to engage individuals in helping their neighbors turn a diabetes crisis into diabetes care. The Be an Everyday Hero Campaign will begin directly following the conclusion of National Diabetes Month, an important time of year when the Diabetes Foundation celebrates its participants, community and supporters. The new campaign seeks to support the valuable work and services of helping children and adult for as little as $1 per month.
“With the continued rise in the numbers of New Jersey residents living with diabetes and prediabetes, it is our hope to more directly engage communities across the state in support of their friends and family members living with diabetes and to create new linkages to the mission and services of the Diabetes Foundation,” said Ginine Cilenti, Executive Director of the Diabetes Foundation. “Be an everyday hero by giving just $1 a month and make a positive difference in the life of someone struggling with diabetes.”
One in 10 New Jersey residents are living with diabetes according to the 2019 New Jersey State Health Assessment Data, with an additional 40 percent of residents being diagnosed with prediabetes. Many do not even know they have the condition, meaning approximately four million New Jersey residents — children, adults, neighbors, colleagues and friends — are impacted. This drastic number underlines the importance of support for the individuals living with diabetes in the Garden State.

Maintaining good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle makes living with diabetes easier, and can significantly reduce the chances of developing some of the more severe side effects caused by uncontrolled blood sugar. The Diabetes Foundation is committed to helping New Jersey residents living with diabetes lead healthier lives. It provides many vital services in support of the diabetes community, including insulin and diabetic supplies assistance, one-on-one diabetes advocate consultation and service linkages, along with camping scholarships for children with diabetes.
For many New Jersey residents, $1 a month is a very approachable amount to donate to support those they know and love living with diabetes. If residents donate just $1 per month for everyone they know living with diabetes, the Diabetes Foundation can significantly expand its services statewide. If these same donors spread the word to friends and family, the potential of that $1 monthly donation to make a major impact grows exponentially.
