Discount Grocery Chain ALDI To Reopen Bergen Store Thursday

The store has been remodeled as part of a $1.6 billion plan to remodel and open 1,200 stores in the U.S. by 2020.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — ALDI, a discount grocery store chain, will reopen its Lodi store Thursday.

Located on Memorial Drive, the store's renovations are part of a $1.6 billion investment plan to have more than 1,300 ALDI stores in the United States by 2020.

The store closed May 15. The store now features more fresh produce, dairy and bakery items The new store features a more modern design, open ceilings and contains more environmentally-friendly materials, including LED lights.

ALDI opened its third Bergen County store May 15. The German-based chain has stores in Hackensack and East Rutherford.

The German-based company offers groceries at discount prices similar, and sometimes, cheaper than Walmart and wants to directly compete with the retail giant.

“Customers will recognize our easy-to-shop environment featuring a new modern design and more room for their favorite products," said Bob Grammer, Center Valley division vice president for ALDI.

The store will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
