NY Giants Name Bergen County's Delcalzo Coach Of The Year
Delcalzo led the Hasbrouck Heights Aviators to an undefeated season and the school's first regional bowl game win.
HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ — Nick Delcalzo had himself quite a year.
The 33-year head football coach was selected by the New York Giants and Giants as the 2018 Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Year.
Delcalzo led the Aviators to a 12-0 record. Hasbrouck Heights defeated Butler 41-7 to win the inaugural North Group 1 Bowl Game. The week before they beat Shabazz High School to win their third straight sectional title and seventh in school history.

Delcalzo became head coach of the Aviators in 1985, won 262 games in those 33 years, and had only one losing season. His teams have won five state sectional championships and two conference titles and 16 division titles. They were named the Bergen County Group 1 and 2 Team of the Year this season.
Delcalzo is a member of the high school athletic Hall of Fame and a two-time Bergen County Coach of the Year honoree. He is a Hasbrouck Heights High School alumnus and was a member of the 1969 team that was named the top team in New Jersey. That team was ranked in the top 10 nationally.

The Giants Foundation and Gatorade will make a $4,000 donation to the Aviators' football program. Delcalzo will also receive a certificate of recognition from NFL Commissioner Roger Goddell and Giants head coach Pat Shurmur.
The award is a culmination of the 2018 Coach of the Week program, which honored a different tri-state area high school football coach each week for 10 weeks. Two other Bergen County high school coaches, Joe Sabella of Paramus High School and Drew Gibbs of Ramapo High School in Franklin Lakes were also honored during the 10-week program.
Sabella, Gibbs, and Delcalzo and other weekly winners will be invited to attend a dinner hosted by the Giants at MetLife Stadium in the spring. they, and their teams, will also be invited to a Giants' preseason next season.
