New York Giants players unload an 18-wheeler as Stop & Shop donates 1,500 Thanksgiving turkeys to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey

New York Giants players unloaded an 18-wheeler as Stop & Shop donated 1,500 Thanksgiving turkeys to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. Part of Stop & Shop’s 2019 Turkey Express program, the neighborhood supermarket will donate more than 18,000 turkeys to hunger-relief organizations in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island this holiday season.
Defensive linemen B.J. Hill and RJ McIntosh, linebacker Markus Golden, safety Sean Chandler, defensive back Grant Haley and tight ends Garrett Dickerson and Scott Simonson attended, doing their part with Stop & Shop to fight hunger across New Jersey.
“As the need for food rises across New Jersey, so does Stop & Shop’s commitment to eradicating hunger,” Bob Yager, Stop & Shop’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Operations. “We are fortunate to have partners like the Community FoodBank of New Jersey and the New York Giants as fighting hunger is truly a team effort.”

The Community FoodBank of New Jersey provides more than 47 million meals annually to residents in need across the state:
- More than 260,000 children in New Jersey (1 in 7) are food insecure.
- A great many families rely on public and private assistance to help feed their children, utilizing school breakfasts and lunches and other food resources.
- The Community FoodBank of New Jersey provides food to families across the state through its more than 1,000 community partners – like local soup kitchens, food pantries and shelters – and through a range of programs including summer meals, Family Packs with food for households over the weekend, and Kids Cafes serving nourishing after-school dinners.
New Jersey residents often make tough choices – deciding between food and other necessities.
- 38% of households in NJ can’t afford basic modern necessities.
- 35% of families with children are struggling
- 46% of seniors 65 and older can’t make ends meet.
- 51% of jobs pay less than $20 an hour.
Stop & Shop is committed to eradicating hunger in the communities it serves. In 2018, the company gave more than $19M in monetary & food donations to fight hunger.
