Senate Primary Drew 6 Percent of Heights Voters to the Polls

The U.S. Senate primary election Tuesday drew a small percentage of Hasbrouck Heights voters to the polls.

Six percent of voters, a total of 472 out of the 7,495 registered voters in town made it to the polls on Tuesday to make their choice for a successor for the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg. 

Hasbrouck Heights vote totals reflect the majority in the state who chose Democrat Cory Booker and Republican Steven Lonegan who will face off in the Oct. 16 general election. 

Although Hasbrouck Heights has more registered Republicans than Democrats in town, more Democrats went to the polls on Tuesday according to the preliminary figures. A total of 269 votes went to the Democrat candidates while 203 votes went to Republican candidates. 

Cory Booker received 176 votes and Steve Lonegan received 157 votes in Hasbrouck Heights. 

Hasbrouck Heights has 1,693 registered Democrat voters, 2,467 registered Republicans and 3,333 who are undeclared.
