Armed Robber Wanted In Wharton: PD

Reports of shots fired are false, but a suspected armed robber is being sought in Wharton.

WHARTON, NJ — A suspected armed robber is wanted in Wharton, police said Thursday afternoon.

The armed robbery happened around 9:45 a.m. in the area of Elizabeth Street in Wharton, police said. A man fled the scene; police aren't sure which direction he fled, and the man has not yet been arrested.

Police are still in the Elizabeth Street area, and an investigation is active and ongoing.

Police in neighboring Jefferson Township said they are aware of the incident.

The robbery forced the delays on several bus routs in Rockaway Township Thursday afternoon; none of the schools themselves were affected by the investigation, Rockaway Township Schools said in an announcement. The following routes are affected: CMS12, Van 82APDBO - 43CAD- 54SB- 83B , 82BP.

Parents had the option of picking their students up, or they can wait for an update, school administrators said.
