Deer Rescued From Frozen Roxbury Lake After Being Stuck For 24 Hours

It took rescue workers two days to pull the deer from the lake. You can watch a video of the save here.

ROXBURY, NJ— It might have almost been spring, but it was still too cold to go swimming. A local deer had to be rescued by county officials after falling through the ice on a Roxbury lake.

The deer became trapped in the ice behind a Walmart Saturday mid-morning, Roxbury Police said. She was stuck in the ice for nearly 24 hours, Roxbury fire officials said, as efforts to save her were unsuccessful at first.

The Morris County Office of Emergency Management sent an amphibious vehicle and a drone onto the lake to help pull the deer out Sunday mid-morning. Roxbury Fire Companies 1, 2 and 3, EMS and ACO also responded. Roxbury Police described the save as a "coordinated effort."
