All cats are to be brought to the clinic in cages/carriers and accompanied by a responsible adult.
New Jersey Administrative Code 8:23A-4.3 allows a municipal licensing clerk to give an exemption for rabies vaccination to a cat if a licensed veterinarian signs a statement that the animal cannot be vaccinated due to an infirmity or regimen of therapy. The IZDP has created a certificate for veterinarians to use when exempting animals from rabies vaccination. This certificate can be found at:
www.state.nj.us/health/forms/vph-28.pdf. It should be noted that a reluctance to administer a rabies vaccine prior to the expiration of the previous vaccination will not be accepted as a valid reason for an exemption. Early boostering has not been associated with an increased occurrence of adverse reactions and is not medically contraindicated.
Please contact the IZDP at (609) 588-3121 if you have questions about these documents or other rabies issues.
