Failed Passing Attempt Ends In Serious Crash: Jefferson PD

The 18-year-old driver will likely face charges, police said.

JEFFERSON, NJ — A driver trying to pass another car caused a serious two-car crash in Jefferson Saturday afternoon, police said.

Naiomy Rivera, 18, of Somerset, tried to pass the car in front of her on Berkshire Valley Road when the crash happened around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, police said. Rivera, who was driving a Nissan Sentra east, crashed into a Honda CRV driving west, police said.

The driver of the other car, Sajad Akbar, 29, of Warwick, N.Y., was seriously injured, as was Rivera and her 15-year-old passenger. All three were taken to Saint Clare's Denville and Dover.

The crash remains under investigation by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, Morris County Sheriff’s Office, and Jefferson Township Traffic Officer Davis and D/Sgt. Krater. Police say charges are likely following the investigation.
